Staff with the new technology

From July, patients at the Trust have started to benefit from the latest developments in mobile technology as nurses use electronic tablets to record patient observations. VitalPAC is an award-winning software system being introduced onto our wards to replace the current paper charts.

It enables nurses to collect observations electronically on an iPod Touch, automatically calculating an 'Early Warning Score' to generate an alert if a patient begins to deteriorate. This can then be flagged to doctors and specialist staff elsewhere in the Trust who are connected to the system. In other hospitals where VitalPAC is used, it has been shown to reduce the time it takes nurses to complete a set of observations by up to 40%.
