The waiting area in the Rapid Access Centre (RAC) at Ashford Hospital has a bright and cheery new look and greater comfort thanks to a generous donation of £2,500 from the hospital's League of Friends.
Rebecca Clarke Medical Support Worker at the RAC said: "The waiting area had become sparse and shabby over the years with none of the furniture matching. I wrote to the League of Friends explaining that at times our patients were having to stand and the waiting area, which is a large space, really did not look as good as it should. All we were really hoping for was a few more chairs. "We were delighted when, a couple of weeks later, they told us they would give us a budget of £2500. A month after we ordered them from Craftwork Upholstery our new brightly-coloured chairs arrived, all matching with the coffee tables. The waiting area is now somewhere we are proud to ask patients to wait in. We have had lots of feedback from patients who say the chairs are comfortable, bright and cheery.
"Patients are either with us for the whole day or coming in for appointments at the various clinics we run. We provide lunch and refreshments to our all-day patients so it's important for them to feel relaxed and comfortable between tests and consultations."
