The paperless function on MyCare patient portal went live on Tuesday 10 December. This means that any patients at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and/or Royal Surrey Foundation Trust who have registered to the MyCare portal and have previously opted to go paperless, will no longer receive paper copies of selected outpatient appointment letters in the post.
Patients will continue to receive their appointment letter via the MyCare portal. They will receive an SMS text message to notify them that they have a new letter and will be given a link to the portal in the text message.
This will be a gradual process and not all services will be included in this first phase of the roll out to become paperless. The services that have gone paperless for outpatient appointment letters are:
- Audiology
- Cardiology Outpatients
- Dermatology
- Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)
- Fractures and Orthopaedics
- Gastroenterology Outpatients
- General Internal Medicine Service
- General Surgery Service
- Geriatric Outpatients
- Maternity and Ante-natal appointments (visible under Midwife Episode)
- Maxillo-Facial
- Neurology Outpatients
- Ophthalmology
- Orthodontics
- Orthopaedics
- Pain Management
- Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy
- Plastic Surgery
- Podiatry
- Pre-operative assessment
- Respiratory Medicine
- Rheumatology
- Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Urology
Any services not included in this list will still continue to send out paper copies of outpatient appointment letters for the time being, even if the patient has opted to go paperless. We will keep you updated as we add new services over time.
The benefits of this change is that we start to save paper, as well as reducing printing and postages costs, with these saving being reinvested into patient care.
This is completely optional and patients who do not want to register onto MyCare will continue to receive paper correspondences through the post.
