St Peters Hospital

Update 18/04/2024:

All of the wards affected by D&V / Norovirus have now resolved satisfactorily and all areas are open to new admissions. This also means that restricted visiting is no longer required and normal visiting can resume.

Original Message 03/04/2024:

The Hospital is experiencing an increase in the number of patients with diarrhoea and vomiting. This is likely due to a viral infection, such as Norovirus. In most people, this is a mild infection that resolves without any complications after a few days. We are taking precautions to prevent the infection spreading to others. For this reason, we are restricting visiting to wards with an increase in diarrhoea and vomiting over the next few days.

If it is essential that you visit, such as you help to deliver care or help with feeding, then please do continue to visit, unless you have had diarrhoea or vomiting yourself in the last 48 hours, we advise you not to visit for 48 hours from your last symptoms.

Please wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after your visit, alcohol hand sanitisers do not work on this type of infection.

Please telephone the ward before visiting, so staff can advise you whether visiting is restricted or not. Please wash your hands with soap and water at any of the basins available inside all patient bays and single rooms when you come to visit and before leaving. We would also advise that you do not eat or drink in patient bays / single rooms whilst visiting.

Thank you for your continued support to keep our patients, staff and visitors safe.

Ellen Bull, Interim Chief Nurse
David Fluck, Medical Director and Director of Infection Prevention and Control
