Consultant doctors will be taking industrial action for 48 hours from 7.00am Thursday 24 August until 7.00am Saturday 26 August. This follows quickly after four days of Junior Doctors’ industrial action, which ended 7.00am on Tuesday 15 August.
We anticipate a large number of our consultants will be taking industrial action.
To ensure patient safety in emergency care, unfortunately we will need to rearrange planned cancer care and elective surgery on those days, and we apologise in advance. If this industrial action impacts your planned care, we will be contacting you directly by letter or telephone to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. We appreciate this can be a distressing time, but we will do everything we can to rebook your surgery or treatment as soon as possible.
If your appointment / procedure is re-arranged (and you have requested transport to and from your appointment) please ensure you cancel this in advance by calling 0300 123 9840.
Please continue to attend all appointments unless you are contacted and advised otherwise.
It’s really important patients in need of urgent medical care during this strike period continue to come forward. If you need urgent medical advice, please visit NHS 111 online or call 111 - and 111 can put you in touch with the services you need - including out of hours GP services, walk-in centres, pharmacies and A&E, if that’s where you need to be. In an emergency or life-threatening situation people should continue to call 999.
We ask that you be patient during strike action as NHS services will be busier and waiting times longer. Please remember to keep A&E and 999 for medical emergencies only.
