Charlotte Michael and Emma Ross from Footprints Day Nursery recently visited St Peter’s Hospital to present the Trust with a cheque for £1,084 for our paediatric wards to refresh their garden and outdoor space.
Charlotte was a patient at St Peter’s and several other local hospitals when she was only three years old, enduring extensive treatment after she was diagnosed with a rare children's cancer, Wilm's Tumour.
After completing her treatment and being given all clear, Charlotte and her family donated and officially opened the garden and outdoor space for our young patients to enjoy. Charlotte remembers cutting the ribbon with her family and still cherishes the memory of being able to give our young patients an outdoor area to explore.
Emma’s said: "We decided to start this fundraiser after hearing Charlotte’s story of being treated in the Oak and Ash wards when she was younger. Having recently visited the garden with Charlotte we felt it need a bit of a revamp and so we decided to create a GoFundMe page to provide new and fresh resources for the garden. From this we have raised a total of £1,084 for St Peter’s paediatric wards."
Andrea Lewis, Chief Nurse at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped Footprints Day Nursery, especially Charlotte and Emma with their fundraising efforts. We are so grateful for the money they have raised for our paediatric wards, and it will no doubt make a huge difference to the children we care for. I’m really pleased to hear that Charlotte’s made a full recovery following extensive treatment at such a young age, and that her positive experience here, at a difficult time, inspired her to fundraise for us. This is amazing and we are very grateful.”.
