We have taken the difficult decision to temporarily suspend the use of Entonox (gas and air) for pregnant women and birthing people at St Peter’s Hospital and are very sorry if you are affected by this.
Homebirths are unaffected and Entonox will continue to be available. The temporary suspension will begin from midday Thursday 30 March 2023, and we have taken this action to protect our staff who may have had extended exposure to Entonox within our maternity services, due to issues with ventilation. We are working hard to rectify the issues and aim to reinstate Entonox use as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we have a range of alternative pain relief options. Please speak to your midwife or contact our Call a Midwife Surrey Advice Line on 0300 123 5473.
Our maternity service are hosting a Facebook Live Q&A event on our recent CQC results and the temporary suspension of Entonox. The event will be held on Monday 3 April, 1pm to 2pm. You can submit questions in advance, using this link.
