Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to announce the re-appointment of Andy Field as their Chairman. Andy joined the Trust three years ago and brings a wealth of private and public sector experience to his role.
Talking of his re-appointment, Andy says: “I am honoured to be re-appointed by our Governors as Chairman of Ashford and St Peter’s. It’s certainly been an eventful, challenging and for me, highly enjoyable, three years. The journey started with an unannounced CQC inspection and a visit from the then Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt in the first two weeks and has ended with us facing and coping so well with the first wave of a pandemic. I have been impressed and humbled as to how everyone has worked together to look after our patients and each other at a time of unprecedented pressure. As a team we have supported each other to work through the trauma and the physical, mental and emotional exhaustion and of course we continue to do so.
I have been privileged to work with such talented and passionate Board colleagues and our wonderful, dedicated Governors, who care so much about our hospitals and volunteer their time willingly. Despite facing times of immense demand and challenge, we must never miss the opportunity to recognise and celebrate our success.
I have also been lucky to work with great colleagues in the wider local health system and being part of Surrey Heartlands Integrated Health and Care System as it emerged. Now more than ever, system working is the way forward and getting to know the key representatives and their issues so I can more effectively represent Ashford and St Peter’s has been essential and very rewarding.
I look forward to my next three year term and to working closely together with the team to deliver our strategy, develop our services, deliver great care and continue to take the opportunity to recognise and celebrate our successes along the way.”
Andy’s distinguished career includes 19 years as an Officer in the Royal Corps of Signals where he saw active service, followed by a variety of private sector roles, including Partner in Deloitte and Business Unit Director at Fujitsu. He was previously a Non-Executive Director at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science and Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. In October 2019, Andy was appointed Chairman as CSH Surrey, an employee owned, not for profit NHS community services provider working across Surrey.
The appointment of the Trust Chairman is led by the Council of Governors Nominations and Appointments Committee on behalf of the full Council of Governors. Lead Governor for Ashford and St Peter’s, Danny Sparkes, adds: “We are delighted to re-appoint Andy as Chairman of the Trust. His knowledge and experience gained over the past three years will bring added expertise to the Board and help Ashford and St Peter’s continue in its journey as a first-class hospital Trust.”
Andy, who is originally from North Wales, lives in Kingston upon Thames with his wife and has two grown-up children.
