Hospitals across Surrey Heartlands are reporting an increased demand on accident and emergency departments, which is impacting on patient waiting times.

Robust contingency plans are in place but members of the public are being asked to Help Us Help You and know what to do and where to go for the right level of health care during this busy winter period.

Unless it's a life-threatening emergency, people being are asked to refrain from calling 999 and instead dial 111 for instant access to healthcare advice and support from highly trained advisers. NHS 111 is much more than a helpline.

Call 111 if:

  • You need medical help fast but it's not a life-threatening emergency
  • You don't know who to call or you don't have a registered GP
  • You need health information or reassurance about what to do next

Calls are free and the service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

NHS 111 can connect you to a GP, specialist nurse, emergency dentist or request an ambulance, if they think it necessary. You can also check symptoms and seek advice via 111.nhs.uk
