Freda is the R&D Manager in the Research & Development Department. Her first degree was in Biotechnology which essentially involves genetics and biochemistry. She then came to England and continued her studies in Clinical Research in which she gained a Master's degree, hence an extensive grounding in pharmacological research.
This post has enabled her to use all her academic skills, including her Diploma in Business studies, which has come in useful for developing the systems and databases that enable the R&D department to efficiently track the details of their study activities and patient recruitment figures in order to monitor research activities.
Freda's role is to ensure that all research studies are feasible at the Trust. Freda is the source of expert advice for those undertaking clinical research within the Trust and the Local Research Network (LRN). She provides expert advice regarding the NIHR adoption process and Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) systems. She reviews the Trust's local governance checks for all National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio and non-portfolio studies undertaken within the Trust. She is also involved in negotiating, preparing and reviewing contracts and NIHR costing template for commercial and non-commercial research studies.
Freda is a fountain of knowledge as she is well-informed about the Legislation and Acts which provide the framework for clinical research in the United Kingdom, such as the Human Tissue Act, Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trials) Regulations, REC, etc.
