If at aged 65 years or above, your aorta measures less than 3cm, it is highly unlikely that you will develop an aneurysm of life threatening size.

Therefore, if no aneurysm is present you will be discharged and no further appointments will be required.

However, if we identify a small aneurysm measuring between 3 – 4.4cm you will be invited back for rescreening every 12 months.

If you have a medium sized aneurysm, measuring between 4.5 – 5.4cm, you will be offered a scan every 3 months.

You will also be offered an appointment to see the nurse who can explain about aneurysms in more detail. You will be offered a half hour appointment usually within 4-8 weeks after your initial scan.
