Parking
Parking spaces reserved for disabled drivers are available close to the entrances to our buildings. There are signs to help you find them.
Wheelchair users
- There are ramp accesses on both sites for wheelchair users.
- At Ashford Hospital, wheelchair ramps are located at the main entrance.
- At St. Peter’s Hospital these are situated at all entrances.
- At St. Peter’s Hospital there are automatic opening doors on Levels 1 and 2 of the Outpatient Department and at the entrances to the Duchess of Kent Wing and Abbey Wing (Surgical Unit / Maternity Wing).
- In the main entrance for both Hospitals there are wheelchairs available for visitors which need a £1 coin to access, this is refundable on return.
- Toilet facilities for wheelchair users are located in various areas of the hospitals and are clearly signposted. If you have difficulty in accessing a toilet, please ask a member of staff.
- Low-level telephones are available on both sites
Please note - the main entrances at both sites close at 22.00 hours (10pm).
Facilities for people with a hearing impairment
On the Wards: An illustrated book is available to assist with sign language and to help communication.
Magnetic symbols are available for use on bed frames, to identify where patients have visual / hearing impairment.
Amplifiers are available and kept in ward areas, these may be of use if you are having problems with hearing aids or for patients who do not have hearing aids and are struggling to hear. Please ask the Ward Manager for help if this is the case.
Hearing loops are available in the following areas:
St. Peter’s Hospital: Main Reception, Outpatients Clinics 1, 2, 3, 4, ENT Reception, Surgical Assessment Unit Reception, Pharmacy, Day Surgery Unit, Medical Assessment Unit, A&E Observation Bay, Aspen Ward, Cardiology, Joan Booker Ward and Nuclear Medicine.
Ashford Hospital: Main Reception, Outpatients Department Reception, X-ray, Walk-in Centre and Day Surgery Unit, Dickens Ward and the Education Centre. For patients who have learning difficulties or patients who have dementia, relatives are encouraged to inform staff of the patient’s normal routine and methods of communication.
Languages
For patients who have difficulty understanding or speaking English, please advise a member of staff and we can arrange a translation or interpretation service.
Support for patients with Learning Disabilities
The Trust operates a Hospital passport for those patients with a learning disability. The Trust also has a learning disability liaison nurse.
Should any person with a learning disability require assistance please contact the appropriate matron via switchboard or the Learning Disability Liaison nurse on 01932 723727.
