Norovirus Update

Due to high levels of patients with Norovirus at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals last week, we took the difficult decision to restrict visiting to all inpatient areas.

We are pleased to announce that we are now able to completely lift this restriction on inpatient visiting across the Trust.

St Peter’s holds a tea-riffic party for patients

Patients on the Senior Adult Medical Services (SAMS) Wards were surprised and delighted when healthcare workers laid on a Valentine’s Day tea party complete with the swooning notes of classic love songs which reverberated through the ward during the afternoon.

Changes to accessing St Peter’s Hospital from Monday 24th February

Added: Wednesday, 19 February 2020

As part of the ongoing Transformation works at St Peter’s Hospital, there will be some temporary changes to how the main entrance of the hospital is accessed. As of Monday 24th February, for eight weeks, there will be no access for patient or visitor drop off at the front entrance. If you are being dropped off by car or taxi, please go to the Duchess of Kent entrance and access the hospital this way.

Trust win Armed Forces award for collaborative recruitment

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals were delighted to win an award for Collaborative Recruitment of the Armed Forces Community at the first Step into Health awards last week.

The Step into Health programme connects NHS organisations to talent from the Armed Forces community. The awards celebrate the work of employers who support the Step into Health programme and acknowledge the successes of individuals who have been through the programme.

The Countess of Wessex supports ‘Nourish our Nurses’ with visit to St Peter’s

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex, spent the morning volunteering for NHS voluntary group ‘Nourish our Nurses’ and meeting nurses and midwives at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey on Tuesday 12th May to mark International Nurses Day. The day coincides with the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale on 12th May 1820.

Trust joins fight against Coronavirus in ground-breaking new study

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals’ has joined the fight against Coronavirus by recruiting COVID-19 patients to participate in a ground-breaking new study of the disease performed by the partnership between the GenOMICC Study Consortium (led by the University of Edinburgh) and Genomics England.

Trust awarded up to £1.5 Million for ground-breaking COVID-19 clinical trial

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals’ in collaboration with researchers in China, and with funding from LifeArc, is set to commence a clinical trial of using Leflunomide, a drug licensed to treat rheumatoid arthritis – in hospitalised COVID-19 patients.

St Peter’s Hospital finds new ways of keeping patients in touch with families

The Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) team has introduced a new way of keeping in touch with parents of babies being treated at St Peter’s Hospital. vCreate is a secure video messaging service that enables staff in Neonatal units to send photo and video updates to parents of premature and sick babies, for times when they are unable to be with their baby in the unit.

Ashford and St Peter’s and Royal Surrey Hospitals join forces to deliver patient-centric digital innovation

The local hospitals are working together to implement an electronic patient record solution setting the scene for joined up care across the county.

Surrey Safe Care consists of a series of software applications that bring together and digitalise clinical and administrative data to replace paper-based records. The system, provided by Cerner Corporation UK, will improve processes and increase safety and efficiency for patients.

Ashford and St Peter’s successfully shifts to virtual consultations

Thousands of patients have been able to attend their appointments during lockdown without having to leave home, thanks to the growing use of virtual consultations.

The NHS Long Term Plan commits to decreasing face-to-face appointments in order to reduce travel mileage, improve patient care and increase efficiency and capacity of outpatient services.

#ReadyforPregnancy Campaign Launch in Surrey

A 12-month campaign has been launched across Surrey to encourage women to get fit and healthy before they try for a baby. Launched on 3 August, #ReadyforPregnancy aims to raise awareness of how women’s health when they get pregnant affects them and their baby not only throughout their pregnancy, but also at birth.
