Letter from the Acting Chief Executive
Thank you for your interest in joining the Board of our Foundation Trust as Chief Nurse. We take pleasure in providing you with a vision of our organisation and how we perceive the Chief Nurse position being a significant strength within Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in delivering our mission to ensure the provision of high quality, sustainable healthcare services to the community we serve. Our vision is to be one of the best healthcare Trusts in the country.
Covid-19 has brought challenges to our organisations and has also provided a platform for change and innovation. As we continue to respond to Covid and bring our other services back to full operating levels pre-Covid, we believe Ashford & St Peter’s is in a good position to meet these challenges both in terms of financial and clinical stability. Safety for patients and staff remains our absolute priority and we have set a new 'North Star' objective within our 'Together we Care' Nursing & Midwifery strategy and outlined a new operating model for the Trust that seeks to "End health and care acquired infections for the team, patients and the community we serve."
We achieved a significant turning point at the end of 2019 by securing the funding needed to invest in our buildings and services through land sales. This will enable the Trust to make fantastic changes to improve care for our local people, through new urgent and emergency facilities, better car parking and new digital services.
The Board has an excellent track record in delivering performance and enjoys supportive relationships with the Trust’s Council of Governors who represent the interests of the public, staff and stakeholders within the Trust. We are part of the Surrey Heartlands local health and care organisations working in partnership with local residents and patients to improve health and care services for local people.
We’ve celebrated a number of achievements at Team ASPH. Following an inspection in July 2018, we were pleased to retain our CQC good rating, with the Critical Care Unit at St Peter’s Hospital achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating overall. In 2019 the Trust was shortlisted for the Comparative Health Knowledge System (CHKS) national healthcare efficiency award and more recently the Trust was awarded up to £1.5 Million for a ground-breaking COVID-19 clinical trial.
As a full member of the Trust Board, the post-holder will provide clinical and Board leadership in the development of Nursing and Midwifery standards and practice that personifies excellence in the delivery of care. The post-holder will ensure that patients, their relatives and carers have a positive experience when accessing and receiving care/services from this Trust, and that this is at the forefront of all strategic development and improvement.
The post-holder fully integrates with other Board members and their directorates particularly in relation to aligning future spending and investment in line with strategic plans and converting strategic aims into operational activities.

Due to Covid-19 and maintaining social distancing guidelines, we anticipate conducting the recruitment and selection process virtually.
