Planning for the unforeseen

Tom Smerdon

Tom Smerdon
Director of Strategy and Sustainability

Given the developments that unfolded this week in regards to Brexit, I thought this was an opportune time to acknowledge again the great contribution of our colleagues from the EU. You are all highly valued and appreciated as part of Team ASPH.

I would also like to add a huge thank you to all of you who have been putting time and effort into contributing towards ‘no deal' contingency planning. This has involved reviewing business continuity plans, looking at different supply options, and daily and weekly reporting of risks and issues to the regional team.

Our First Team Talk

Welcome to this month's video message, which covers the first Team Talk event held on the 26th March.

I spoke about encouraging better connections with every member of Team ASPH in a recent message of mine as we have been and are looking at different, more effective 21st Century ways of communicating and having conversations with you all, of which Team Talk is just one. Giving everyone a chance to hear what's happening at the Trust and equally have their voice heard is crucial to achieving the Together We Care strategy vision and mission and to making ASPH a great place to work.

The first event was a great success with around 100 colleagues attending from across Trust departments, with a further 150 tuning in via the live video stream!

With very best wishes,

Suzanne Rankin
Chief Executive

For my message this week I want to talk about one of the ways we try to attract and support colleagues to continue to work at the Trust, the provision of good quality affordable accommodation on site and locally. We all know how expensive it is to live in the South East, particularly when it comes to buying and renting houses, and if we want to recruit and retain great colleagues, we need to do what we can to help provide a positive living environment.

Most of you will be aware that we are completing the sale of surplus land to the west of the site at St Peter’s and I am hoping we are very close to announcing further news on this next week! As part of this we will be selling a piece of land to Optivo, the provider of onsite accommodation at St Peter’s, who will be redeveloping and upgrading the available housing. The first stage of this programme will affect residents living in the Parklands area, as the current block will be demolished and replaced with new, expanded and improved accommodation and in 2021 Silverlands is also due to be rebuilt.

Discussing Death

Welcome to this month’s video message, which focuses on a very special and important topic, in a different format which I hope you will all enjoy. This month I was joined by colleagues from across the Trust to discuss the important subject of death. This was inspired by work that we’re currently undertaking to learn from deaths but also after having listened myself to the BBC Radio 4 series ‘we need to talk about death

Chief Executive's Message

On a regular basis, our Chief Executive sends a message to staff about events at the hospitals, special achievements, and plans for the future.

We shall be adding them to this section as well as including them on our Twitter and Facebook pages.

From time to time, we shall ask other members of the Trust Board and clinical team to give their perspective on the week in our hospitals.
